You’ve made your own New Year resolutions, but what about your home? Don’t you think your home deserves to be clean, beautiful and a relaxing place for you and your family in 2017? Of course you do, which is why we thought we’d share a few home resolutions you should commit to in 2017 for a more relaxing space and better home overall.
1. Clear all the clutter
Make it a point for 2017 to clear all the clutter from your home. It’s actually the top resolution many have for their homes and the least expensive way to transform your space and feel better about where you live. Every year, you collect more and more stuff, which only adds up each year, creating for a cluttered home. This year, commit to purging your home of unneeded stuff and finding a home for everything you have so that it’s less cluttered. And once you do, you’ll also notice how much cleaner your home is! Create a schedule and go through each room of your home, clearing out things you no longer need or want. Create a donate and trash pile and toss things in accordingly. Keep things that bring you joy and throw out things that don’t. Find a place for everything and clear your countertops of junk.
2. Make your home safe
You home might be beautiful and amazing, but is it safe? The last thing you want to live in is a home that’s unsafe and creates a hazard to you and your family’s health or is a fire risk. Make 2017 the year you make your home safe! Check your home for radon, which is a colorless, odorless gas that can cause lung cancer and other hazards to your health. A test kit can be found at your local store for under $20. Always clean your dryer’s lint trap so that it doesn’t become a fire hazard and make sure your home doesn’t have mold anywhere.
3. Create a cleaning schedule
Keep your home looking great by creating a cleaning schedule that is doable for you and works with your family. If you have kids and pets, you might have to do chores more frequently than if you lived alone, so a schedule can help make everything more manageable. And if you can, enlist your family to help so that you can get the job done faster!
